凤凰(FengHuang)

Heya everyone! The past two weekends have been filled with travel adventures (ZhangJiaJie, ChangDe)! And this last weekend was no exception! Me, Amanda, and Kamilla left for FengHuang right after class on Friday. The ancient city is in the middle of nowhere, so we could only get there by bus which was about 5 hours. I loved every second of it. I got to watch the China countryside pass by and it just so happened to be clear enough I could see the blue sky. :) My favorite part of the whole ride was when us girls were listening to different songs but had a dance party in the aisle of the bus. SO FUN! We couldn't stop laughing. haha. When arrived around 8 PM. As we drove through the more modern buildings of FengHuang Amanda told me the city was built around the river, but the best part was coming. We made it to the bus station, then ordered a taxi to the heart of the city. As we pulled off to the side of a bridge, we looked out over one of the most beautiful scenes. Pictures don't do it justice. So sorry. I wish I could express

how it felt to be here... There's something about this town that left me feeling calm. We enjoyed the view for a while taking everything in and even listened to traditional Chinese music playing from somewhere in the town. Our hostel was in the thick of it all, through a rickety old door. It was quite chilly, even so we could see our breath. For those that

know me well: it is my favorite type of weather. After checking in to our hostel, we hit the town. We explored the more "tourist-y" street which featured a cute postcard shop with an enclosed balcony overlooking the river where you could sit and write your notes.

I always love seeing red lanterns or decorations. There's something about the color red that makes me smile. It's been said the color red brings good fortune and joy. I guess it's

true! The above picture is the doorway to a cute coffee shop. After exploring for a while, we headed back to the hostel where we enjoyed many laughs and even a dance party. :) The next morning we were up bright and early for another day of exploring. Seeing everything in the day was even more lovely than in the night. Crazy, right? For those

interested in the history of town: FengHuang literally means "Phoenix Town". It is said thousands of years ago a Phoenix came from the heavens to visit the very grounds the town is built on. FengHuang is a place where many go to find inner peace and escape the ugliness of the world. What an opportunity to visit this town. I thoroughly enjoyed

walking through the portion of the town where most people live. It was so quiet. To get across the river, there were several bridges (wood, stone, and even singular stones placed in a row) we could walk across. Amanda and I couldn't resist posing like we were doing TaiChi on one of these bridges. We busted up laughing after the picture was taken

and almost fell in the river. :) I seriously love this little town with my whole heart. Like I said, it was so quiet and I even got to hear birds chirping. I know that doesn't sound like a lot, but to me, it was. Sometimes it's the little things that make you smile. :)

can ya spot me balancing in the middle of the river? :)

Getting lost in FengHuang was one of the highlights of my China experience for sure. Also, doing so with famous ginger candy in hand made it even better. :) Saturday was filled with exploring and even talking with locals. I couldn't help but heel click many a times making causing to locals to look at us like we were crazy. I'm not even mad at about it. :) Saturday night we decided to have dance parties through the streets of town

and it was so much fun! It's been a while since I laughed so much. Definitely needed it I guess. All thanks to these lovely ladies! I loved spending yet another adventure with them. It was really hard to leave this place on Sunday. I'm so grateful I got to experience

the ancient city of FengHuang with the girls I am so grateful to call friends. Until the next adventure... :)
