world culture day!

Last Friday was such a fun day! Nearly every country was represented at Hunan Normal's World Culture Day. Now, I know what you're thinking: I wonder what crazy performance or booth Maura created; unfortunately, I didn't prepare any American culture booth. Simply because: I am one person. It would have been too much to accomplish in the week and half they gave us. BUT, I loved supporting and even help prepare with other countries. :) Booths were set up on the basketball court on campus,

and flags were strung between both sides of the court. It was perfect weather! We could not have asked for a better day to celebrate. Each booth had information pages on the country itself and even interesting facts about the people/culture. My personal favorite was Ghana. They were dressed in traditional clothing which was so colorful. OH! And every booth had famous food which you could try. My favorite food was from Laos (sticky rice, chili paste, vegetables, pork). Learning of different cultures and how people

I'll say it again: the people are what have made this experience as grand as it is. My heart is full of gratitude for my classmates and friends I've made. I would dare say they have opened my eyes to the

ways of the world. It makes me smile every time someone asks me what my thoughts are on the current political situation is in the United States, though. :)

I have loved learning of different cultures and how people enjoy life. My favorite was seeing so many people with big smiles on their faces having fun. While everyone was trying new foods and enjoying each others' company, dance and song performances were presented on a stage in the front of the court. They included: cultural dance from Pakistan, love duet performed in Chinese, Kung Fu demonstration, traditional Chinese Geisha, and many more. Wow. I loved every second of it. I am so grateful for the opportunity to be here and celebrate World Culture Day with the people I love so much.
