Howdy everybody! You will never guess what I did yesterday... in a cowboy hat, SUU tshirt, jeans, and tennis shoes I sang "Life is a Highway" by Rascal Flatts for the International Students (about 75 people). Yep! Yehaw is right! I had so much fun. Hopefully the video clips work so you can see a little bit of my performance. The first
is how I began my performance which made the entire room yell and cheer. I couldn't stop smiling! I've been singing my whole life usually in church settings or in the car, but today I tried to add that unique twang found in country songs. I think I did pretty well! :)
I can't tell you how happy I felt during the entire song. I grew up listening to Rascal Flatts and have so many memories associated with "Life is a Highway". What an unforgettable experience to perform a song that I hold so dear for the people I have come to love so much. Also, when I arrived in China I decided to add a few things to my bucket list and yesterday I got to put a check mark by "perform in China". What a life, am I right? Now, during the song there is a guitar solo and I decided to run around the room throwing chocolate to the crowd yelling, "yehaw!" When I returned to the front, I thought, "Why not do a little jig?" :) Hopefully the video works so you can see... I had SO much fun. I
was able to work with the ISC (International Student Committee) in preparation for the event. They are such great people. What a blessing it is to meet people from all over the
world. During the Ceremony today groups performed from: Ghana, Thailand, Yemen, and even Pakistan. I felt honored to be included.
If I have learned anything the past few days, it would be this: we have to be willing to give ourselves a chance. Don't let your uncertainties dictate your actions. Look at me, I am living in China studying a difficult language pushing myself to perform country songs in front of my classmates. I wouldn't change anything... Take a chance on yourself. Don't fall victim to your doubts. Make your life magnificent. Make it grand. Today's the day. :)
